Gotta Love the Irish

Just try to find a dessert recipe that is classically Irish that does NOT call for some type of alcohol. I dare you! Try it. Irish creme brownies, ice cream, fudge, you name it, it's Irish if you add Irish cream to it. I found a fabulously delish looking chocolate cheesecake with a secret Irish ingredient- Guinness beer. There was another cake with beer in the batter and Irish cream in the frosting- yes, yes, let's double up the booze.

Shortbread? Yeah, ok. But that's Danish and Swedish too.

Sugar cookies? Really? Everyone makes those so unless I want to dye 1/3 the dough green, 1/3 the dough red, and spend hours making them look like the flag of Ireland, sugar cookies are out.

It sure would be fun to get all the quilting ladies schnockered and see what it does to all their sewing. Tipsy quilters, we could laugh about that all day. I guess I'll make potatoes instead.

So I don't know if it helps you or not and they aren't true Irish deserts, but I have a friend that is cooking Irish all week...

I always thought: Irish = alcohol...at least when it came to Irish people!

LOL... You're too funny Helena!! I would love to see the quilter ladies myself in that state. Sorry your original plan didn't work out.

Amanda, thanks! I had Kyra make green rice krispie treats... not because they're Irish but because I love krispies!

Bill, we're all Irish on St. Patty's day and yes, you probably will get it trouble if you kiss a lady wearing a shirt that says, "kiss me, I'm Irish". NOt with me, but with her husband.

Nancy, who are you? My original plan included asking the man in front of me at Fry's to buy one of his O'Douls. I had the opportunity but decided that I was taking it to church so I opted out. A quilt lady brought a different cheesecake and substituted for the Irish cream. Oh well.
